Rolex's current Oyster Perpetual takes its name from the very first waterproof automatic watch that led to Rolex becoming a household name. The original Oyster Perpetual was a combination of two legendary movements developed by the brand - the Oyster water-and-dustproof case, and the Perpetual automatic movement. It wasn't long before Rolex put two and two together to create one of the most consequential watches of all time.

Today, the simple Oyster Perpetual no longer has the highest water resistance or the longest power reserve. In fact, it's arguably been eclipsed by the success of the Datejust, which features a date window. However, the collection is still here, providing reliable and timeless designs to collectors who prefer something more subtle and under-the-radar.
