The Cloche de Cartier is one of the maison's more unusual shapes. Originally released in the 1920s and inspired by (and named after) a bell, the Cloche was one of the rarer expressions of the jeweller's craft. It was produced intermittently, being offered in very limited runs, including one in 2007 with 100 examples being made.

The way the watch is worn - with 12 o'clock in alignment with the crown - is reminiscent of the driver's watches which were fashionable with the rise of automobiles in the first half of the 20th Century.

The latest offering was from 2021, as part of Cartier's revived Collection Prive. Three variations were created - yellow gold and champagne dial, rose gold and grey dial, and platinum with a cream dial. This rose gold version is perhaps the most contemporary, with a subtle grey dial balancing out the warmth of the gold. The printing matches the colour of the case as well, making it feel sleek and modern.

CARTIER

Described by King Edward VII as 'the jeweller of kings and the king of jewellers', Cartier is synonymous with perhaps more iconic designs than any other manufacturer. Sitting at the intersection between fine watchmaking and art, Cartier combines decades of heritage with an ability to create original and attractive watch designs.

From its birth in the 19th Century up to today, Cartier has earned a well-deserved reputation for being a manufacture that has successfully transformed the humble wristwatch from a soldier's tool into a true object of desire.
